ABOUT SINGAPORE OPTOMETRIC ASSOCIATION
Singapore Optometric Association (SOA) was formed and officially registered on 14th April 1978. In the early 1970s, there was no official group to cater for optometrists who had formal tertiary qualifications. And to represent the views and interests of the profession. In the past, there were few training and education programs for optometrists. At that time, optometry was unregulated, which meant anyone could sell and prescribe spectacles.
OUR VISION
To advance and promote the role of optometry as a Primary Eye Care profession to optimize vision and to help eradicate preventable blindness.
OUR MISSION
The influential voice of optometrists in Singapore for the advancement of the profession to benefit and promote public eye health.
Objectives of SOA
Singapore is known for being the myopic capital in the world. Optometrists in Singapore stand at the fore front in the prevention and correction of myopia. Optometrists are also well versed in the detection, diagnosis and management of eye disorders. The Singapore Optometric Association (SOA) represents its member Optometrists in promoting and upholding the profession of Optometry.
Optometrists are the primary eye care practitioners of the eye and visual system, who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction, dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.

START YOUR MEMBERSHIP WITH US
SOA annual conference also serves as a platform for interactions among members of optometry
professions and other health professions. Overseas invited speakers get to share their knowledge and
skills in Singapore.
Other than educational programs and meetings. SOA is align with protecting the professional liability of
its members. Hence, SOA has also provided professional indemnity cover for all its ordinary members.
Moving forward, SOA is progressing to co-operate with other international Optometry organization to
continue to promote Optometry in Singapore.
